Beach Renourishment

After many many years of talking about beach renourishment, the project at Oak Island is finally underway.  Though it was too little too late for so many homeowners, those left with worthless oceanfront lots as we were may now get some relief.  There are currently two renourishment programs in place for the island and neither would have been possible without the support of  Congressman Mike McIntyre.  My family and I wish to express our thanks to him for his hard work on this project.  Below are pictures taken March 11, 2001 of the project now underway.

This is a view from our former house location.  You can see that the amount of
sand being pumped is indeed enourmous and should provide protection for
many years to come.

Another view from near our old lots.  Low tide hasn't been that far out in over 25 years.

This view is from the former location of John Stedman's house.  You can gain a bit of
perspective on exactly how much sand the beach is gaining through this project.

This is the former site of our house as seen from the street looking towards the ocean.
When Johnny spoke to the project manager he promised to give us a little extra!!
